Sick Parenting

Catherine had a great first birthday party, which I have wanted to post about...along with her one-year stats and her first day of "school". But we all got hit with the stomach virus this week.

{I'll try to keep the gory details to a minimum.}

C got sick Sunday night, and we thought it might have been just a bit too much cupcake.

Then Jason messaged me on Tuesday to come home stat because he was sick, too. By later that night, I had joined the party, and poor Fred even upchucked in the back yard. {I imagine the three of us had disgusted him by that point.} It was quite the dance we had going at one point to toss her into the pack-n-play or crib as we ran for the other room.

Anyway, we are {maybe? surely?} on the mend; although, Catherine threw up again today. {I'm hoping it was just the coconut milk, but that's another story for another day.}

This has been the sickest we've been in a long, long time, and to have it hit both of us at once was quite the parenting challenge. Fred has learned what it means when we "don't feel so well" {no walks, spend most of his time out of our way}, but Catherine still wanted diaper changes, play time, and snuggles. I have to admit that the snuggles were the hardest as I despise being touched when I'm sick.

So it was a bit of a painful reminder that parenting requires you to be sacrificial and selfless...and sometimes OK with the grosser side of life. {Nothing like seeing a little hand reaching under the bathroom door, right?}

Now to catch up on work, laundry, and birthday blog posts. Hope you all are staying well!

  1. I'm so sorry you have all be so sick. That sounds really awful. I'm praying you are all getting better everyday. And yes, parenting is all about the grossness and being okay with it. Or not being okay but still handling it somewhat well.

    Hope your flu has flown.
    Happier days to all,
    Leah
    P.S. LOVE the mental picture of Miz C.'s little hand coming under the door. "You can run, but you can't hide" was first uttered by a mother.
