Life Updates {Best Post Title Ever, No?}

As my friend Elizabeth described, I've had a ton of "ghost posts" in my head lately with little time to write much of anything down. Life is moving as fast as this picture shows...

Sidenote: do any of you ever feel as if you need some kind of life skills course in being an adult? Now there's a college course that would have been useful!

Anyway, other stuff that has been going on with us lately includes...

-minivan purchase
When we found out about #2, we realized that the Spectra was no longer a good option. Not long after, we got a flyer from a local car place advertising trade-in deals, so we thought we'd just check out the offer. We were able to find one just one year older than the Spectra, with fewer miles, in good condition, and, most importantly, for about the same monthly payment we were already paying. I'm surprised by how much I love it! After a lifetime of four-door sedans, it feels huge, and it made  traveling much more comfortable.

-school milestones
Jason and I both should finish our coursework this spring. Woohoo! After that, we'll have qualifying exams; then, if we pass, we'll have only our dissertations ahead. This semester, I'm really grateful that I'm doing two independent studies with my advisor--primarily preparing for my written and oral qualifying exams and working on what I'll be proposing for the dissertation. It's scary and exciting!

-baby
Speaking of scary and exciting, it's interesting getting ready for a second little person. I'm so much more relaxed about some things, not nervously Googling every little symptom or twinge, and there are only a few things we'll need. {It seemed like we could have filled another house with everything we thought we needed for Catherine.} I haven't been sick, so that's been fantastic. {Or I have been better about persevering since the almost one-year-old little lady doesn't approve of my coming home and going straight to bed.} I've had few aversions {mostly bread--weird, huh?} and a few odd cravings, which made me feel nauseous as soon as they were satisfied. I haven't really gained any weight, so I haven't done any "bump" pictures, but I'll try to start those soon. {Poor, neglected second baby.}

-resolutions
I did a "more" and "less" list for my New Year's resolutions this year {detailing things I want more and less of in 2013}. We've been evaluating our goals as a family, working on improving some areas, and I'm eager to share. It's just sometimes more fun to share when there's been actual progress, and so far, there is just the hope of progress {and a few small steps toward that}.

What about you? Fill me in on what's up in your world!

  1. You have a lot going on right now. Wow! In my small corner of the world, the snow is melting, I'm babysitting my friends' one year old son today and then they're coming for dinner tonight. And I woke up at 5:05am today to go work out. So now I'm tired. And I'm bursting with excitement because I am planning a surprise birthday party for my husband this weekend. It will be soooooo fun!

    And I'm looking forward to hearing about some of your family goals. Dave and I did a re-evaluation in November and some parts are going really well and some...not so much.

    1. I'm impressed that you were up and about working out that early! My workouts now consist of walking the dog. :)

      Best of luck with the surprise party!

  2. Congratulations again on Baby 2! It is a different animal entirely being pregnant with a toddler to care for. Someone told me yesterday that having a newborn and a toddler is much easier than being 3rd trimester pregnant and chasing a toddler. I am hanging on to that encouragement for dear life!

    I have about 4 weeks until I meet my sweet girl. I made no New Year's resolutions, but I have a goal to run a 5K by the end of 2013. I think that is totally attainable.

    Congrats on finishing your coursework! That is a big milestone!
