Wrapping Up July

Well, here we are at the end of July! And, may I say, I'm so ready for school to start. I haven't felt this way in a long time, but welcome August!

It's just been a busybusybusy summer, which also partially explains why I'm a bit behind on my blogging. ;)

There's not a lot of news from my corner of the world. Tuscaloosa pretty much shuts down at this time of year because it's just too hot to do anything else!

I did want to send out a progress report on my "27 by 27" list.

One of my recent favorite 27 new words...

alektorophobia--courtesy of Mr. Monk
Can I just ask--who's NOT afraid of chickens? And, if you're looking for a 27th birthday gift, check out Monk's "phobias" mug!

Anyway, on the way to losing 27 pounds and saving $270 (not to mention paying down those credit cards), I've been checking into Oprah's "contracts." These are obviously not legally binding, but I do think they help you make your goals official.

So, that's where I am...still barreling towards 27!

Welcome August!

Google-Pt. 4

Yet another inspiring issue of Google's newsletter for librarians.

Things are heating up as school starts again, but I'll try to have a longer post next week!

Vacation Hangover

Whew! It's hard to come back from vacation! This has been a tough, hot week here in Tuscaloosa.

Jason and I had a wonderful vacation in Nashville. If you're heading that way, some of the highlights:

Superman Returns at the IMAX-so very, very, very cool to see in 3D

Shopping at Opry Mills

Lifeway Store

Nashville Zoo

Fido's (definitely my favorite)'s about 10 degrees cooler in Nashville! I forget how hot it gets in Tuscaloosa in July.

OK, enough complaining.

I've been plugging along on my "27 by 27" stuff.

Here's an update:

On my 27 books...

I've read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult and Sisterchicks Down Under by Robin Jones Gunn. Don't skip either of these, please. They're so so good.

On my 27 movies...

We've seen Love At Large, Superman Returns, Flightplan, Time Bandits and The Pink Panther.

On the 27 notable things I've never seen before...

I watched Bizet's opera, "Carmen." It was...OK. I want so much to like opera. I love classical music, but I just can't deal with the singing. Oh, well. Also, the Nashville zoo. Very cool place.

And...I've made my way through "Acts" in the New Testament. I've tried "Love That Red" and "Orange Blossom" nail polish. And I learned the word "frugivore." I'd say things are going well so far.

Stay cool, and happy July to you!
