AVL Training

Just a notice...I'm not going to be able to make these, but I would if I didn't have that pesky thing called work!

The AVL Training Committee is pleased to offer FREE training sessions on Britannica. The vendor has requested the sessions be split into specific groups: K-12 participants in the morning sessions and public and academic participants in the afternoon sessions.

To register, go to http://www.jsu.edu/depart/library/avl/britannica_registration_form.htm. Registration forms and information about each sessions are available on the specific group's page.

NOTE: The deadline for registering is Tuesday, February 28, 2006.

The sessions will be held statewide, from Tuesday, March 7 until Thursday, March 9. There will be two sessions per day: morning session 9-12 (for K-12) and an afternoon session 1-4 (for public and academic).

A few recommendations for your reading pleasure...

I LOVED The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. Don't let her name throw you; the names of the characters aren't too tough. She's fantastic. She won the Pulitzer Prize for her novel Interpreter of Maladies.

Also, check out an older classic, How Green Was My Valley by (another tongue-twister) Richard Llewellyn. The movie is fantastic, too. John Ford was a great, albeit peculiar, director, and Maureen O'Hara is one of my all-time favorite actresses.

Meanwhile, a former SLIS colleague of mine now has a blog that I'm enjoying very much, so here's a plug for it as well.

Personally, the diet's going OK. I'm going off the vegetarian stuff for one day and one day only! My wonderful husband and I are celebrating our engagement anniversary at Outback, and I just can't pass up the Outback special!
